4th – 5th May 2015 – ALTE Course on ‘Assessing Language for Academic Purposes’

ALTE is running a two-day course on ‘Assessing Language for Academic Purposes’ in Bergen, Norway, 4th- 5th May, 2015. This course will cover basic theoretical considerations and offer practical guidance for building tests and classroom assessments for the range of purposes involved: assessments that take account of the distinctive characteristics of academic language use. There will be a balance between lecture-style input and practical exercises with opportunities for discussion and sharing experiences.

The course will be run by Professor Anthony Green, University of Bedfordshire, and will take place just prior to the ALTE 46th Meeting and Conference, in Bergen, 6th– 8th May 2015. The venue of the course is the Scandic Bergen City Hotel. The cost of the course is €450 (€350 for ALTE Members and Affiliates), and it includes tuition, materials, coffee breaks and lunch on both days.

4th May 2015 – ALTE Course on ‘Excel for Assessment Professionals’

ALTE is running a one-day course in ‘Excel for Assessment Professionals’ in Bergen, Norway, Monday 4th May 2015. This is a practical, hands-on course for people working in assessment who would like to know more about how to use Excel as part of their exam analysis procedures, and how to prepare and edit charts and tables for use in reports.

The course will be run by Jane Lloyd, ALTE Validation Unit Manager, and will take place on Monday 4th May, just prior to the ALTE 46th Meeting and Conference which takes place in Bergen, 6th- 8th May 2015. The venue of the course is the Scandic Bergen City Hotel. The cost of the course is €160 (€140 for ALTE Members and Affiliates), and it includes tuition, materials, coffee breaks and lunch.

5th May 2015 – ALTE Course on ‘Introduction to Facets Analysis’

ALTE is running a one-day course on ‘Introduction to Facets Analysis’ in Bergen, Norway, Tuesday 5th May 2015. This course is aimed at people working in assessment who are new to Facets, or would like to understand more about how they can work with an analyst who is using it.

The course will be run by Jane Lloyd, ALTE Validation Unit Manager, and will take place on Tuesday 5th May, just prior to the ALTE 46th Meeting and Conference which takes place in Bergen, 6th- 8th May 2015. The venue of the course is the Scandic Bergen City Hotel. The cost of the course is €180 (€160 for ALTE Members and Affiliates), and it includes tuition, materials, coffee breaks and lunch.

8th May 2015 – ALTE 46th Conference Day

ALTE’s 46th Conference Day is being hosted by VOX, Norwegian Agency for Lifelong learning in collaboration with University of Bergen and will take place at the Litteraturhuset i Bergen, Bergen, Norway, on Friday 8th May 2015. It is open to all those with an interest in language testing and is free of charge. Please note that there are only 20 places available.

The theme of the conference day will be ‘The B2/C1 levels and language tests for academic purposes’ and featured speakers will include Professor Anthony Green (University of Bedfordshire), Professor Sara Weigle (Georgia State University), Bart Deygers (KU Leuven), Beate Zeidler (telc), Dr Magali Paquot (Université catholique de Louvain), Professor Angela Hasselgreen (Bergen University College), Professor Kjersti Fløttum, Professor Torodd Kinn, Else Berit Molde and Aasne Vikøy (University of Bergen), and Dr Cecilie Carlsen (VOX).

9th May 2015 – ALTE ‘Foundation Course in Language Testing: Getting Started’

ALTE will run a one-day ‘Foundation Course in Language Testing: Getting Started’ on 9th May 2015.

The first half of the course will be a presentation and discussion of the main principles and factors in language assessment, followed in the afternoon by a workshop on item writing. This course will be ideal for professionals in language learning and teaching who need a comprehensive yet practical introduction to the field of language assessment.

The course will be taught by Annie Broadhead, consultant to ALTE, and will take place on Saturday 9th May 2015, just after the 46th Meeting and Conference in Bergen, 6th – 8th May 2015. The venue of the course is the Scandic Bergen City Hotel. The cost of the one-day course will be €140 (€120 for ALTE Members and Affiliates), and it includes tuition, materials, coffee breaks and lunch.
