Dignity – A Multidimensional View is the latest book by Francisco Cardoso Gomes de Matos, a peace linguist and educator, professor emeritus at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil. He is a co-founder and current president of ABA Associação Brasil América. He is also a good friend of FIPLV and has supported us for many years.
This is a groundbreaking book on the many dimensions of dignity. Over the past ten years, the author has created a kaleidoscope of rhymed reflections to share his thought-and-action- provoking perceptions of dignity.
Dignity is multifaceted. Dignity has psychological, social, political, scientific, and spiritual aspects. Dignity is communicative, creative, and educational in its thrust. Dignity is related to the many challenges that flow from economic, environmental, organizational, globalizing, and peacebuilding processes and efforts.
Peace, nonviolence, and nonkilling are intimately intertwined with dignity. Again and again, dignity is violated through processes of humiliation and degradation.
