Professor Kinga KlaudyProfessor Emeritus and Doctor of Science (DSC), is a pioneer in Translation Studies at a national and international level. She is the founder of the Department of Translation and Interpreting and the PhD program in Translation Studies at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest, Hungary. She developed internationally renowned methodologies for translator and interpreter training. University textbooks written by her have served as the foundation for translator and interpreter training programs across Hungarian, English, Russian, German, and other languages at universities throughout Hungary. Her works include not only strategies for translators but also educational techniques for trainers in translation. Video recordings of her university lectures, which provide unique explanations of translation theory and practice, are widely recognized and have therefore been incorporated into teaching materials for translation and interpreting educational programs. She has published over 200 works in multiple languages, spanning translation studies, applied linguistics, and contrastive linguistics. Her contributions have shaped the discipline of translation studies and elevated its academic and professional standards globally.

A founding member of the Hungarian Association of Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching (HAALLT/MANYE), Professor Klaudy served as its president (2008-2013) and continues as vice-president. Under her leadership, HAALLT (MANYE) has become a key forum for advancing research and education in applied linguistics and language teaching in Hungary. Her work through HAALLT (MANYE) has significantly contributed to bridging theory and practice in language education and fostering collaboration within this field.

Thanks to Professor Klaudy’s vision and dedication, translator and interpreter training in Hungary has achieved a professional and academic foundation, ensuring skilled professionals are prepared for the challenges of the modern era of translation. Her lifelong commitment to Translation Studies and her leadership in HAALLT have left an indelible mark on the field.
