Veselin Petrov Chantov

Assoc. Prof. Veselin Petrov Chantov, PhD is a senior academic and educator at the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (ULSIT) in Sofia, Bulgaria. Since 2008 he has been a member of its Department of Comprehensive Studies where he teaches English and courses in public communications, digital literacy and intercultural communication. Dr. Chantov holds a degree in English Philology (teaching and translation) from the Veliko Tarnovo University “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” (1997) and, after a successful academic career and many years in private-language teaching, earned his PhD in “Social Communications and Information Sciences”.

He is currently Director of the Department of Comprehensive Studies — a leadership role placing him in the institution’s Rector’s Council and Academic Council, where he contributes to the shaping of curricula and educational policies across general and language education. An active scholar and author, he has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles and conference papers on topics including foreign-language competence development, blended learning and media-enhanced language instruction. He is the author of the textbook “English for Information Technology Students” and a monograph titled “Foreign Language Communicative Competence in the Context of Lifelong Education”. Beyond academia, Dr. Chantov is deeply involved in promoting language-education quality at national level. He chairs the Bulgarian Association for Quality Language Services OPTIMA, contributing to accreditation standards and best practices for language centres. He is on the board of BETA – the Bulgarian English Teachers’ Association serving as International Relations Officer. His scholarly and organisational leadership and his long-term dedication to quality language education make him a respected figure among peers and students alike — embodying a modern vision of integrated linguistic, digital and communicative competence for the information society.
